Olney Civic Fund raises money and organizes community events as well as supports Olney area non-profits

OLNEY DAYS 2021 IS CANCELLED

This was a difficult decision and we look forward to celebrating in 2022. We appreciate all the sponsors and volunteers that give time and treasure to make this event happen for Olney.  Meanwhile, we will start our planning for Oktoberfestival for the fall 2021 and hope to see you there.

GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE

Olney is a special place because the people who live here care. For many the financial impact of the defensive measures against the COVID-19 virus is large and increasing. Olney Civic Fund's mission is to support non-profits that serve the Olney Community and here are a few ways you can help:

If you are able to help financially...

 *  Give directly to Olney Help.  Olney Help provides financial assistance to prevent foreclosure /eviction, help prevent cut-off of utilities, and purchase essential medications. In addition, Olney Help provides food assistance to individuals and families in need. Food donation sites are closed, and with bus service limited and schools closed, it is hard for some families to utilize the free school lunch program.  Therefore the best way to provide food assistance is through financial contributions (cash or grocery store gift cards).  Over 95% of every dollar donated to Olney Help goes directly to the people they serve.

 *   Give to Olney Civic Fund, a 501(c)3, who will aggregate the charitable donations in order to make meaningful contributions to non-profit organizations in Olney that have been severely impacted by the closures. A few examples:

  • For over 40 years Winter Growth has provided care for seniors and adults with disabilities through its Adult Day Care, Assisted Living, and Respite Care programs. Due to the Coronavirus, they were mandated to close its Adult Day Program resulting in an unprecedented loss of income that will threaten its ability to maintain the future of its programs.
  • For over 22 years Our House provides a residential setting where at-risk adolescents receive job skills training and counseling. Due to the mandatory closures, their food costs have increased now that the participants are on site all day.

These organizations are qualified 501(c)3 organizations. They accept donations by check (send via mail) or credit card (through a secure PayPal process - please send as a friend to avoid fees). Also let us know in the note section how you would like to list your name or if you would rather remain anonymous.

If you have time to volunteer...

*  Olney Help needs you to answer phones and/or deliver food

*  Our House needs tutors for their participants who are studying for their GEDs. Call Ms Rice at 301-519-1019

 *  Olney Home For Life needs drivers who are not in the high risk group who are willing to drive individuals to doctor's appointments (greatest need is to take patients to dialysis).  If interested, call 301-446-2512

For individuals that had their employment terminated...
There may be unemployment benefits

For businesses that have been affected...

 *  The Small Business Administration is providing low interest loans

 *  Information for Businesses from Maryland (taxes, closures, licensing, employer and worker assistance)

To help Olney area business...
 *  Purchase gift cards on line so the business has the much needed revenue during this trying time and you get to shop once things are back to normal
 *  Order take out or curb side pick up from local restaurants
 *  Keep your gym memberships active

Olney Civic Fund wants to help. Please let us know of other non-profits serving the Olney Community that have been severely impacted by the mandatory closures at OlneyCivicFund@gmail.com.

Be an Olney Civic Fund Neighbor, Friend, or Supporter by donating $25, $50, or $100

Olney Civic Fund supports Olney area non-profits as well as plans community events such as Olney Days and Oktoberfestival. Events are free to attend but the expenses for the entire Olney Days weekend cost close to $30,000.  The largest costs (adding up to $24,000) are the park rental fees, fireworks, and the stage & sound. Sponsorships cover most of the expenses but individual donations are needed.  As Olney has grown, Olney Days keeps the small town feel where new relationships are made and old relationships are nurtured.
