For Volunteers at Party in the Park
First, THANK YOU!!
Last year over 6000 people attended Party in the Park. This is why we need you. There are 300 volunteers working this event and it is important that everyone understands how to arrive and leave.
Where is Olney Days Party in the Park?
Olney Manor Park: 16605 Georgia Ave or on Waze/Maps look up Olney Swim Center.
How to get to the park if you are being dropped off:
You can be dropped off in front of the swim center. ENTER FROM EMORY LANE FROM GEORGIA AVE. Starting at 2:30, ALL parking inside Olney Manor Park costs $10 but your driver may enter the park, go to the folks collecting money for parking, and they will give you a special pass that will allow you to go around the circle in front of the swim center. Once you are dropped off, your driver will be directed to leave the park.
The Volunteer Check In Tent is in the circle on the grass in front of the swim center.
ALL Volunteers must check in. At check in you will get a t-shirt, a name tag, your assignment, you will see a picture of the adult you will be working with as well as see a map so you know where to go for your shift. We recommend that you look at the map before arriving to become familiar with the event layout.
To keep track of your time, you will also get a card with your name on it to take to your assigned area and give to the supervisor there. The supervisor will you give instructions and answer any questions. At the end of your shift you will take the card back to the Volunteer Check In Tent where you will receive your SSL form. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING THE SSL FORM. If you don't want to keep the t-shirt, there will be a box to return them.
Getting picked up is trickier than being dropped off because there is no room for drivers in their cars to wait for you. They may enter the park to pick you up AFTER you have checked out. If they are waiting for you, your driver may be told to leave and come back when you are ready to be picked up. There is limited room for cars in front of the swim center AND there will be NO cars allowed in the circle by the swim center after 8 pm because people sit in the area to watch the fireworks so it would be unsafe. After 8 pm cars will be directed through the parking lot and not the circle. Volunteers are welcome to stay after checking out to watch the fireworks - it's a great show.
An alternative is for your driver to park and come meet you in person at the Volunteer Check In Tent. The ICC lot is an easy location to park and has a free shuttle which drops off near the front of the swim center. After you check out, the two of you can take the shuttle back to the ICC lot together. This way your driver doesn't have to worry about all the traffic inside the park.
How to get to the park if you are driving and parking OR your driver wants to walk with you to the Volunteer Check In Tent:
See Parking Page for all the different options for parking.
How to take a break if you are working more than one shift:
There is a Volunteer Break Area located behind the dessert trucks between the swim center and skate park. The entrance is behind the brick walls so follow the signs. You must have an Olney Days Volunteer T-shirt on to enter. There is free food (pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies) and drinks (water, juice). Note the bathrooms are just outside the Volunteer Break Area (next to the dessert trucks). Arrange with your supervisor when you feel you need a break. The supervisor will schedule the breaks as he/she can based on who is there and what is happening.
