Be Part of Something BIG - Olney Days Party in the Park Volunteer Lead Positions & Time Commitment
Volunteer to be part of something BIG. You will meet other volunteers who tend to be really great people (like you) at Olney Days Planning Meetings as well as at the Olney Days Kick Off and Wrap Up Parties.
Each position only requires a few hours and most can be done electronically so it can fit into your schedule. An Olney Days Coordinator will review a detailed list of what to do and answer any questions along the way.

* SLINGSHOT
Learn the flow of movement through the giant slingshot. Oversee student volunteers who do the actual work of running the slingshot. Work with Coordinator the weekend before Olney Days put together the slingshots (lots of screws) and after Olney Days disassemble for storage. This position can be split into two jobs - one to put together and take apart the slingshots and another to run the event at the event.
Approximate total time needed: ~10 hours
4 hours to assemble/disassemble and 6 hours at the event on May 3 (2:00 - 8:30 pm)
* LIGHT UP TOY SALES
Working with an Olney Days Coordinator, determine what toys to order and what price to sell them. Organize a display at the event and oversee volunteer helpers. Ideal for someone with kids – what would your child want to buy and what would you be willing to pay for it?
Approximate total time needed: 6-8 hours
(2-3 hours to determine what to order and 5 hours on day of event to set up and oversee the sales. Most sales are after 6 pm when it starts to get dark)
* SIGNAGE
Keep list of signage already have. Working with leads, determine what new signs need to be ordered (someone else orders). Install banners and signage. Take everything down after and store in shed.
Approximate total time needed: 6-8 hours (with 3-4 hours being on May 3 from 11 am - 2 pm and then 9 - 10 pm)
* PRESS RELEASE WRITER
Check with GO News regarding deadlines. There will be an early article in late February and another one in the last issue before Olney Days weekend. Use prior year press releases as a guide. Contact leads of the various events to get quotes. Write article and share with Olney Days Coordinators for editing.
Approximate total time needed: 4-5 hours
* DATABASE MANAGEMENT
Currently we are using MailerLite (willing to change if something is better). Need to maintain the contact lists (different categories) and work with Olney Days Coordinators to create messages to send out.
Approximate total time needed: 6-8 hours
(depends on familiarity with program)
* SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT CREATOR
Work with Olney Days Coordinators to determine posts and what can be used to create the content. Monitor comments/questions on Instagram and Facebook
Approximate total time needed: 8-10 hours
(really depends on how quickly one can create content)
